The vineyard

Terroir

The vineyards of Moulis are the oldest in the Médoc.

Mention is made of vineyards in various title deeds of the property in the 15th and 16th centuries.

The terroirs that make up the 90 hectares of Château MAUCAILLOU, are composed of superb outcrops of quaternary alluvial deposits, largely from the layer of Guntz gravel from the Garonne which is at the origin of the Grands Crus Classés of the Médoc.

It is this gravel, whose gleaming surface reflects the sun’s rays up on to the bunches, that enables the grapes to reach full maturity, which is an essential condition for producing great wine.

The estate is made up of 72ha AOC Moulis en Médoc and 18ha AOC Haut Médoc.
